"I will understand what racism is."

Racism is a learned behaviour.

It stems from:

Icon an erroneous belief that we inherit intelligence, behaviour, and cultural and psychological characteristics along with our physical features;

Icon fear due to misinformation and a preconceived notion of others;

Icon a need to feel superior to others; and,

Icon a combination of prejudice and power.

Racism results in:

Icon actions or practices which discriminate against, subordinates, or harasses individuals or groups because of physical features (mostly colour of skin), culture, and religion;

Icon verbal, emotional hurt, pain, and anguish and, sometimes, physical abuse;

Icon isolation and exclusion; and,

Icon divisiveness in society.


Racism is harmful to our society's health.
It has hidden social and economic costs.
