survived because his family helped him, he worked to make himself
useful to the Nazis, through the kindness of strangers and through
luck.
Judy Cohen felt that the basic human instinct of hope, a tiny
flame of hope that she would live, helped her to survive.
And you just saw that David Ehrlich survived by doing what he
could to get scraps of food, whether it meant polishing the
shoes of the SS, or risking death by stealing from them.
